Support Association for Finnish Inventors SAFI
The
association was established on 26.4.2004 on the World Intellectual
Property Organization (WIPO) "World Intellectual Property Day".
The
goal of the association is to improve and support the operational
preconditions of inventors and other innovators, to sustain finnish
competitiveness and to be a liaison between inventors and businesses.
The
association arranges several events, the most important of which is the
annual World Intellectual Property Day / Day of Finnish Inventors in
April. This event is mandated by the United Nations agency WIPO. Other
activities include debate panels, providing information and supporting
inventors in various other ways.
World Intellectual Property Day and Innovation Parliament
The World Intellectual Property Day was celebrated for the fifth time on 24th April 2009 at the Helsinki School of Economics.
WIPO
founded the day to get global attention to creativity and innovations
as generators of welfare and prosperity for the mankind. The 2009 theme
in Finland was "Innovation as wings for welfare".
This years
goal set in accordance with the national innovation policy was to
challenge Finland to renew the thinking and structures for both
business and public sector innovation.
Hosts for the event were
the National Board of Patents and Registration of Finland, the Support
Association for Finnish Inventors and Headline Oy.

During
the four years of the associations existence a versatile, high quality
package of other events for promoting innovation has been developed to
support it. A central part of this program is the National Innovation
Parliament.
It is a two day workshop for the workers and
visionaries of innovation. This years Parliament was held in Turku on
21.-22. April 2009. The committees looked for new initiatives for
improving finnish competitiveness and plenary sessions gave
recommendations accordingly.
The host of the event was the city
of Turku in co-operation with the National Board of Patents and
Registration of Finland, the Support Association for Finnish Inventors
and Headline Oy. Key supporters included the Turku School of Economics,
the Turku University, the Åbo Akademi, the Turku Science Park Oy,
Cultural Capital of Finland 2011 and the Turku Region Development
Centre.
The National Innovation Parliament presents annual Konsta -awards. This years winners were:
